Down Under Sports is pleased to announce that Barry Goldwater High School Senior Benjamin Smith has been invited to represent his home state of Arizona at the 30th Annual 2018 Down Under Football Bowl in Australia this summer.

A stellar athlete since a young age, Ben wrapped up his high school football career in October with some amazing stats. Playing as QB, fullback, tailback, WR, corner safety, linebacker, punter, and kickoff and punt returner, he finished on defense with 111 tackles, 4 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles and recoveries. On offense, over 1500 rushing yards, 203 receiving yards, 363 passing and 3015 all purpose yards. His 27 high school career touchdowns “will go down as the most career touchdowns in recorded school history”.

Coach Nate McWhorter states “Ben is a kid who is hard to sum up in words, really. You watch him play and he’s so smart, smooth and tough as nails. Then you meet him off the field and he’s one of the most laid back, genuine and down to earth 18 year-olds you’ll ever meet. On the field his switch flips and he’s an extremely passionate, fierce competitor and an outstanding teammate. It really was an honor to have coached him and we’re excited to see what his future holds.”

Ben departs for the land down under on June 24th. This exciting opportunity is just the beginning for Ben who hopes to attend Northern Arizona University in the fall. Good luck Ben!
