Backers of Ballet is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation whose goal is to provide the north valley communities with a professional quality artistic event at little to no expense, making the experience available to people of all ages and backgrounds while providing young local dancers the opportunity to work and perform with professional dancers in front of large audiences. Student dancers, ages 3 to adult, from around the valley participate in the production along with outstanding local and national professional dancers.
Once again, Backers of Ballet, will be spreading holiday cheer through its 10th annual production of The Nutcracker Ballet.
They are proud to be partnering with M.A.M (Military Assistance Mission). The admission to the ballet is $5 and a new, unwrapped toy to benefit military families in Arizona.
The Nutcracker Ballet will be performed under the artistic direction of Rena Backer. Mrs. Backer is a member of one of the most acclaimed families in ballet history. Her great grandmother, Alexandra Fedorova Fokine, traces a direct line to the original 1892 production in St. Petersburg. Guest Artist, Klevis Tafaj, principal dancer with Ajkun Ballet Theatre will be performing.
Backers of Ballet will provide outreach opportunity this year at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and a special show just for children in the Paradise Valley School District.
The full-length version will be performed at Horizon High School, located at 5601 East Greenway Rd. on Saturday, December 8 at 2:00 and 7:00 pm and Sunday, December 9 at 2:00 p.m. With their 2017 performances, they were able to help M.A.M. (Military-Assistance-Mission) to collect over 900 toys for Arizona children!
