April is the time of year where many of our CCUSD students participate in Arizona state testing across all our elementary, middle, and high schools. In all our schools we take great pride in providing individualized instruction for all students so they can perform well.

We provide testing accommodations for students who meet Arizona eligibility criteria, and our counselors and teachers work with students who may have high test anxiety so that they can experience success on these testing days. We are looking forward to another successful testing season where we can celebrate how much our students have grown in one year.

Below is some information to educate you on changes that have occurred for 2022.

Elementary school students formerly took the AzMERIT to assess their proficiency in reading, writing, and math. The state of Arizona has now moved to administering the AASA (Arizona’s Academic Standards Assessment). Third grade students will also take a new assessment this year—ORF (Oral Reading Fluency), which measures the rate at which they can read an unfamiliar passage. Students will use headphones with a microphone to submit their test online. Fifth grade students will also continue to take AzSCI, a test measuring their proficiency in science, which includes standards covered in grade 3-5.

Like elementary students, middle school students formerly took the AzMERIT and will now take the AASA to assess their proficiency in writing, reading, and math. Eighth grade students will continue to take the AzSCI, a test measuring their proficiency in science, which includes standards covered in grade 6-8.

Arizona high school students used to take AzMERIT end of course assessments. The state of Arizona has now changed their high school assessment to the ACT exam for all 11th grade students and the ACTAspire exam for all 9th grade students. Eleventh grade students will also take the AzSCI, which measures their proficiency in science and includes standards covered in grades 9-11. Thank you for your support. CCUSD looks forward to this time when our students can truly shine through these examinations.
