Immerse yourself in the exhilarating world of international music and dance as Global Sounds, a free performance series, proudly presents the Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra (PAO!) on Wednesday, May 10. This 16-member ensemble, led by the charismatic Camille Sledge, brings together some of the most ambitious and audacious musicians in Phoenix, promising a night of electrifying energy and captivating rhythms.
Starting with a repertoire of classic Afrobeat music, PAO! has since composed a wealth of original material that masterfully blends the ensemble’s eclectic heritage with the traditional Afrobeat style. The result is a powerful and unique sound that pays tribute to the masters while maintaining a fierce individuality, acting as a voice of solidarity and understanding for the global community. In 2023, the band plans to release and support their third studio record, “The Times,” alongside more new music crafted during these times of societal unrest.

The Global Sounds series aims to showcase the diversity and talent of global music and dance, and the Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra perfectly encapsulates this spirit. The performance will take place at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts, located at 10580 N. 83rd Dr., with the show kicking off at 7 p.m. Each show in the series runs for 80 minutes, featuring a 15-minute intermission.

From concert halls to street fairs, fashion shows to fundraisers, PAO! has shared the stage with music icons such as George Clinton and The Roots, as well as lesser-known masters including Bombino, Vieux Farka Touré, Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars, Orgone, Dengue Fever, Turkuaz, Sudan Archives, The Dip, and Los Esplifs.
