Hi, my name is… Del Foster.
I’ve lived in North Phoenix for 18 years and love it because… Of the people, mountains, desert, and the fact that we can be in Northern Arizona in a few hours.
A typical day in my life includes… Getting up, having my coffee, and writing an encouraging post on social media. I am a chaplain at Skyway Church in Goodyear, and we call on people to pray, encourage and uplift. I also enjoy writing and recently published my second book titled “Goody’s Wish.” The book is about a 14-year-old girl who makes a wish. It’s a family story set in a small town during 1985. It is available on Amazon.
My family is… My daughter who lives about a quarter mile from me and my sisters and brothers live who live in Avondale. We talk on the phone almost every day and should get together more often but we all live busy lives.
One thing I cannot live without is… Coffee and maybe chocolate.
My favorite movie I could never get tired of watching and why… “Gladiator.” This great general and leader, whose family was killed, is now forced to be a gladiator. Even in prison he was still operating as the great leader he was born to be.
When I was younger, I wanted to be… An artist. I still paint and draw in my spare time.
The song I would sing at Karaoke night is… “Way Maker.”
The one person who motivates me is… My daughter. She is the best person you want to know. She has a great sense of humor; I am always laughing when I’m around her. She has also been a great encourager to me when I need it. She’s always in my corner.
The last thing that made me laugh out loud was… When one of our pastors told us that when he did a funeral, the song the family picked to play at the service was, “They’re Coming to Take Me Away.” This is not the normal type of song played at a funeral service!
The perfect day… Is doing the best you can even when the day is not perfect.
My favorite local nonprofit is… Skyway Church in Goodyear. Another favorite is Chance Shelter of Surprise, a nonprofit animal rescue. My daughter and I recently attended a fundraiser for this amazing animal shelter. Both of us love animals; she has two rescue dogs and I have two rescue cats.
My life is… Busy. Between chaplain duties, writing, taking care of my cats, my garden, and the daily things that come our way, there’s always something to do.
The best gift I’ve ever received was… I’ve received many amazing gifts, but the one that stands out is a giant Smart TV that I wasn’t expecting.
My dream vacation would be… Visiting North Carolina, driving through the Blue Ridge Parkway and visiting the Outer Banks’ beaches. I would love to go there.
The best piece of advice I’ve ever received… Be the best person you can be and love those around you.
