HI, MY NAME IS…Jessica Ellsworth, MD

I’VE LIVED IN NORTH SCOTTSDALE FOR 22 YEARS, AS A PACIFIC NORTHWESTERNER, I LOVE IT BECAUSE… I was surprised how fast I fell in love with the desert. It is hard to go back to the rain when the sun becomes baked in your soul. Practicing medicine here fills my heart, too.

A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE STARTS… early because a certain pup thinks 4:19 a.m. is the time to rise and shine!

MY FAMILY IS… funny, smart, and loving. I have three grown children, one grandson, and two wonderful sons-in-law.

ONE THING I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IS… See’s Dark Chocolate Nuts and Chews. They are so delicious and bad.
MY FAVORITE MOVIE I COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING AND WHY… is “Hoosiers.” I watch it every September. My second favorite movie is anything that starts with “Fast and Furious”…cars with big engines and outrageous moves, what is not to love?

THE ONE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS… my husband. We have been married for 47 years and I hope we have another 47 years ahead of us.

THE LAST THING THAT MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD WAS… my dog Jellybean. An avocado rolled off the kitchen counter. He grabbed it with such glee and raced off with such triumph, positive he had just captured the Golden Snitch!

THE PERFECT DAY IS… watching the sunlight filter through the Grand Canyon, while crossing all seven bridges with my husband and friends. I feel so lucky every time I am there.

MY FAVORITE LOCAL NONPROFIT IS… HonorHealth hands down. Yes, HonorHealth is a non-profit healthcare system and I’m so honored to be part of it as the first concierge medicine doctor in the primary care setting. Commitment, community, employees, and patients are all my reasons why. This is my first year at HonorHealth and I could not believe the level of caring they offer on every level. They prepare meals at a low cost for working parents to take home to loved ones after a long shift, food for the homeless, not to mention the emotional support. The opportunities provided to every individual makes sharing and caring effortless and joyful.

MY LIFE IS… an adventure of learning. There is so much I don’t know, have not seen or heard.
THE BEST GIFT I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS… the International Health Plan Scholarship from Mayo Clinic that allowed me to participate in two medical missions to Haiti. This was an invaluable opportunity to serve and admire a resilient culture.

MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE… (nerd alert) to visit the libraries of the world. To step into a library that contains books that are centuries old, maybe a 1,000 years old would be amazing. The combined smell of leather, dust, old paper, and furniture polish is too delicious.

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED… was from my grandmother. “Don’t ever say ‘hate’ to anyone. You may dislike someone intensely, but never hate!”
