Calling all artists!

The city of Peoria is adding more art to the streetscape by showcasing artwork designed by members of the community on utility boxes throughout the city. Up to 15 artists will be chosen for the 2022 Utility Box Art Wrap Contest. The deadline to submit the artwork is Sunday, April 10.

Selected artists’ designs will be printed on vinyl and wrapped around the boxes by a third-party design fabricator. The intent of the project is to beautify the utility boxes, bringing art to otherwise utilitarian surfaces. It also allows local artists the opportunity to develop public art experience.

This opportunity is open to artists, illustrators, designers, students, and otherwise creative community members residing in the Peoria area, working in any medium, as long as the final artwork can be translated and digitally reproduced on a two-dimensional vinyl wrap. Artists can submit up to two designs.
“Taking something as functional as a utility box and turning it into an expression of the unique character of our community immediately adds vibrant energy to the street,” says Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat. “Peoria is home to incredibly talented artists and their contributions to this project cannot be understated.”

Utility box locations will be throughout the city of Peoria and the art wraps will be installed in May. To learn more about art requirements and to enter the contest, visit peoriaaz.gov/arts.
