Public libraries are a service that brings educational tools, resources and activities to many local families. However, due to COVID-19, most local libraries temporarily suspended in-person services, making access to library resources difficult. The Appaloosa Library, located at 7377 E. Silverstone Drive, just launched a unique program called Pony Express @ Appaloosa, which is designed to help residents access library tools while taking COVID-19 precautions into consideration.

The Appaloosa library, like many others, has been closed to the public since March 2020 due to the COVID-19. Pony Express @ Appaloosa allows residents access to library tools in-person with safety precautions in place. This is a self-service model providing registered patrons access to the building and services without needing staff on the floor.

Although drive–thru services have been available throughout the pandemic, this new system will better serve the customers by providing a library experience that allows guests to browse freely on their own. Approved patrons can independently check out items, access public computers, utilize free Wi-Fi and use the printing services.

In order to join this new program, interested guests must register in-person at the Appaloosa Library during drive-thru window hours. To register, visitors need a Scottsdale Public Library card, however if they do not have a library card, they can register for one at the same time. For a Scottsdale Public Library card, bring a valid photo ID or proof of Maricopa County residency to fill out paperwork. You must be 18 years or older to access the Pony Express program or be accompanied by an adult parent/guardian when visiting the library in-person.

Pony Express @ Appaloosa is open Monday – Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. The library’s drive-thru services are open Monday – Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.
