The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) is excited to announce its upcoming spring and summer programs, offering a diverse array of art events and experiences for visitors of all ages. Among the highlights are the Insight Art Tours, led by SMoCA’s curatorial staff, designed to provide patrons with a deeper understanding of the museum’s current exhibitions.

The popular Glow Up @SMoCA series continues inside Phillip K. Smith III’s “Three Parallels” exhibit, offering unique experiences such as sound baths, meditation, and mindful movement sessions through July.

In collaboration with Arizona State University, SMoCA welcomes back the Virtual Video Art Festival, showcasing video art produced by students from the Experimental Video Art and Documentary Video Art programs.

SMoCA staff leads insightful, 30-minute tours that provide context and spark discussions about works of art on view.

“Visions ‘23” Opening Reception – May 12, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. (Free with RSVP)
Scottsdale Arts Learning & Innovation will be premiering the “Visions ‘23” exhibition in Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA). Join these talented young adults as they share their stories and passions at the “Visions ‘23” opening reception. Awards will be announced, light refreshments will be provided and SMoCA will be open for free from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Glow Up @SMoCA: Meditation – May 18, 7 p.m. ($20)
Refresh your aura and bathe in the serene light of Phillip K. Smith III’s “Three Parallels” as Gen Kelsang Tabkay guides you through a meditation that empowers you to generate feelings of inner peace and joy. Suitable for everyone, these meditation sessions offer simple, practical methods to improve the quality of our lives and develop inner peace. These classes focus on using Buddhist understanding with guided meditation, a practical teaching and an opportunity to ask questions.

Glow Up @SMoCA: Mindful Movement – June 15, 7 p.m. ($20)
Refresh your aura, and bathe in the serene light of Phillip K. Smith III’s “Three Parallels” as Nicole L Olson leads you through a mindful movement exercise intended to get your body moving in ways that bring joy and awareness to its natural rhythms. Learn ways to bring awareness to your body and how to channel joy from movement.

Glow Up @SMoCA: Sound Bath – July 20, 7 p.m. ($20)
Refresh your aura, and bathe in the serene light of Phillip K. Smith III’s “Three Parallels” as a sound bath — led by Melinda Milton — eases you into deep relaxation. A sound bath is a form of meditation that allows listeners to sink into an immersive experience of sounds and vibrations to induce deep relaxation while promoting healing and well-being. Tibetan sound bowls, chimes and various instruments are used by the sound healing practitioner.
