The Sonoran Arts League is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), volunteer-based, arts service organization dedicated to actively advancing art, artists, and art education.
This month, they offer a multitude of art classes for North Valley residents to enjoy at The Holland Center, located at 34250 N. 60th Street in Scottsdale.

Veterans are invited to take part in a monthly free open studio art workshop on the second Thursday of every month from 10 a.m. to noon. This month, it will take place on December 9. Veterans and active-duty service members can work on any of their art for free; guests and spouses are invited to join pending available space for $12.

Join a two-session ceramics class with instructor Robin Ray from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, December 10 and 17 to learn advanced hand building techniques. This is designed for adults who have attended an Intro to Ceramics workshop at the Sonoran Arts League or who have prior experience with ceramics. Ceramics materials that are provided will include clay, tools, ware boards, plastic, and underglazes with two rounds of firing. The fee is $150 with a $20 materials fee to be paid to the instructor.

Students in third through eighth grades can get in on the pottery painting fun for free from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, December 11. Kids select a bisque-fired ceramic piece and use a variety of glazes and texture materials to embellish. The pieces will be kiln fired and available for pickup at the Sonoran Arts League Center for the Arts the following week. This workshop is presented free to the community through the support of Kiwanis of Carefree.

Veterans are invited to learn to draw skulls in a free art workshop from 10 a.m. to noon, Thursday, December 16. An important step in learning how to draw portraits, this class will review perspective, shadows, angles, and more. Veterans and active-duty service members can work on any of their art for free; guests and spouses are invited to join pending available space for $12.

Did you miss Hidden in the Hills last month? An exhibit of the 53 artists who participated in Hidden in the Hills is on display at the Desert Foothills Library Gallery, located at 38443 N. Schoolhouse Road in Cave Creek through January 20, 2022.
