Information and Rendering Courtesy of the city of Peoria

Late last month, the city of Peoria began locating existing underground utilities along 67th Avenue between Pinnacle Peak Road and Hatfield Road as part of the 67th Avenue Corridor Improvement Project. The information obtained will provide the design team with the critical information needed to further the design efforts for a new planned storm drainage system along 67th Avenue.

The work and subsequent pavement repairs are expected to be complete in June. Lane and turn restrictions may be required to complete this important work. This project is funded by the city of Peoria, state of Arizona and Flood Control District of Maricopa County in partnership with the City of Glendale and City of Phoenix.

67th Avenue Corridor Improvement Project
The City of Peoria’s 67th Avenue Corridor Improvement Project is a multi-faceted, regional infrastructure project which expands the roadway, enhances drainage protection, and installs a new waterline. The project extends from Pinnacle Peak Road to Happy Valley Road as a gateway to the city of Peoria, with connections to both Glendale and Phoenix.

The project will widen 67th Avenue to three travel lanes in each direction by expanding the existing roadway with an additional lane in each direction with bike lanes and raised median islands along a portion of the roadway between the Lifetime Fitness/Christ’s Church of the Valley (CCV) entrance and Happy Valley Road for access management and to enhance safety. Overhead utilities on the west side of 67th Avenue will be converted to underground, and the project also includes new curb, gutter, sidewalk, storm drains, streetlights, and landscaping to complete the streetscape.

Residents north of Happy Valley Road will gain an additional through lane and dedicated right turn lane at the intersection of 67th Avenue and Happy Valley Road for southbound traffic, and dual left and right turn lanes will be constructed on the west and south legs of the intersection to improve travel times.

In coordination with the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, a regional stormwater drainage plan identified the need for a regional storm drainage system. The city of Peoria recently completed interim improvements on a drainage basin at Hatfield Road and 67th Avenue. As part of the project, storm drains will be installed in 67th Avenue and a box culvert at Hatfield Road to direct stormwater to New River.

Predicted Project Timeline:
• Regional Storm Drain Data Collection, Hydrology Analysis, and Drainage Report: Happening Now.
• Preparation of Final Engineering Plans in Preparation for Construction: Summer 2022 to Fall 2023.
• Right of Way Acquisition for Widening 67th Avenue: Summer 2022 to Summer 2024.
