Foothills Caring Corps Empowers Elders to Thrive at Home for Over Two Decades

For over 23 years, the Foothills Caring Corps has served as a cornerstone of support in the Carefree, Cave Creek, and neighboring areas, allowing elderly residents to age in place with grace, safety, and independence. This vital nonprofit is a lifeline for many, fostering a strong sense of community belonging among its clientele.

Through the dedication of its volunteer workforce, the Foothills Caring Corps offers a broad array of essential services. These include delivering mobile meals, providing non-emergency medical transportation, making friendly home visits, assisting with handyman tasks, and managing both a recreational van program and a Mobility Loan closet. Last year alone, the agency’s volunteers made over 28,000 touchpoints across the community, highlighting the critical nature of their work.

“Our mission goes beyond providing transactional services; it’s about creating a community where every individual feels valued and supported,” says Brent Downs, executive director of the agency. “We are immensely grateful for the tireless dedication of our volunteers, the unwavering support of our donors, and the invaluable partnerships we’ve forged within the community.”

In 2022, the corps organized 3,327 recreational van trips, delivered 20,130 mobile meals, facilitated 2,955 non-emergency medical trips, and aided over 1,150 individuals through their mobility loan closet. Each number not only quantifies the help provided but also symbolizes the countless personal interactions and moments of relief provided to those in need.
