Peoria Unified School District Board Member Rebecca Hill Announces Resignation
Rebecca Hill, a member of the Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) Governing Board, has announced her resignation. The decision took take effect after the board’s meeting on Thursday, August 24, at the district’s headquarters.

In her official resignation letter submitted to the Maricopa County Education Service Agency (MCESA), Hill says, “Please accept this as an official notice of my resignation from the Peoria Unified School District No. 11 Governing Board, effective August 24, 2023. I am grateful for the opportunity I had from our electorate to serve this community and wish the district well in the future.” Hill is relocating out-of-state to be nearer to her family and has declined any requests for further interviews.

Following her departure, the responsibility of filling the vacant seat will fall to MCESA Superintendent Steve Watson, who oversees the appointment of members to the governing board. The new appointee will serve the rest of Hill’s term, concluding on December 31.

Peoria Fire-Medical Opens Registration for Annual Citizens Academy
Peoria Fire-Medical Department is set to kick off its annual Citizens Academy starting Thursday, Oct. 5, offering Peoria residents an inside look into the world of firefighting. The five-week program, open to residents aged 18 and above, promises both educational and interactive experiences.

Participants will gain insights into the significant role the fire-medical department plays in ensuring the safety and welfare of the Peoria community. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics including fire truck operations, gear and equipment, understanding fire behavior, and much more.

Designed for everyone, from those considering a career in firefighting to those merely curious about fire services, the academy promises a blend of fun and informative sessions.

Vistancia Farmers Market Returns
The Vistancia Farmers Market & Craft Show is back for its fifth season, inviting the community to an outdoor extravaganza filled with over 80 vendors and numerous attractions. The event, open to the public, is located at the Mountain Vista Club parking lot at 29701 N. Sunrise Point, and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning September 17 and concluding on May 19, 2024.

Guests can expect a plethora of offerings ranging from farm-to-table produce, organic eggs, artisan breads, and award-winning sauces to unique arts & crafts. Three local farmers will be showcasing their fresh produce. Also on the menu are specialties such as organic olive oils, grass-fed meats, cold-pressed juices, and even organic dog treats. Food enthusiasts will relish the tamales, smoked BBQ, and an assortment of homemade goods like yogurt and hummus.
