The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety recently awarded $10,000 to the Street Transportation Department to help fund the department’s on-going bike safety initiatives for school students.

The grant will be used to produce a series of bike safety education comic books for primary school students and to purchase bicycle helmets for students that participate in the city’s annual Bike to School events.

This is great news for the children of Phoenix, as it helps bring needed safety equipment to our young riders,” said Councilman Michael Nowakowski, chair of the City Council’s Public Safety and Veterans Subcommittee. “With the increased interest in bicycle use among both children and adults, safety programs are critical to encouraging responsible and fun travel.”
