HI, MY NAME IS… Kevin Mitchell.

I’VE LIVED IN AHWATUKEE FOR 33 YEARS AND I LOVE IT BECAUSE… of the small-town community feel in one of the largest cities of America.

A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES… well, there is no typical day in my life, as I own two businesses (Weeks & Mitchell Home Remodeling and DSI Builder Supply) and every day is very different. The mornings consist of waking up early to go for a hike with my wife. We are fortunate enough to be able to walk right out our backyard and be on the mountain trails. When we return, we grab a cup of coffee, get our two boys going for their day, and send them on their way to school by 8 a.m. Then the madness begins. When I’m wearing my DSI hat, I’m meeting with builders about their cabinet needs, designing kitchen cabinet layouts for their communities or custom-built homes, and usually pitching in to help unload a semi-truck full of cabinets at the warehouse. When I have my Weeks & Mitchell hat on, I’m helping coordinate the remodel process with my management staff from our Chandler showroom and visiting with vendors about the newest trends in the industry. When the work day ends, the after-school activities begin. I always find myself on a baseball diamond somewhere either watching the boys play a game or participating in a practice.

MY FAMILY IS… my amazing wife, Holly. She really holds the whole thing together for us. Holly works with me at Weeks & Mitchell and DSI doing the books and the miscellaneous tasks that are required to make the businesses successful. We have two boys, Brady (15) and Cayden (13). They both love baseball and they play the game at a very high level.

ONE THING I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IS… vacation! My family and I do vacation right. We go somewhere new every time we go on vacation. In fact, every summer we visit a different MLB baseball park, allowing us to explore new cities while taking in a baseball game.

MY FAVORITE MOVIE I COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING AND WHY IS… “The Family Man.” Nicholas Cage’s character makes a seemingly small decision that changes the trajectory of his life. I love that the movie depicts that every choice we make, good or bad, has a consequence.
WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I WANTED TO BE… a radio DJ, as my dad spent 40 years in that industry, and he got to travel the world and meet artists. I always thought he had a dream job.

THE SONG I WOULD SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT IS… I don’t sing!

THE PEOPLE WHO MOTIVATE ME ARE… my boys! When I see how hard they work at school and in their sports activities, it makes me want to continue to work hard for them. I know that I am a role model for them and when they see me work hard, they’ll continue to work hard too. If I let up on my goals, then they might let up on theirs.

THE LAST THING THAT MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD WAS… my brother played a joke on our dad where he fake sneezed on the back of my dad’s neck. However, my brother squirted a spray bottle of water on the back of his neck instead. Our dad thought my brother sneezed all over him and my dad got so mad––it was funny! The prank was actually captured on video by our mother, so we all get to experience the funny moment over and over.

THE PERFECT DAY IS… 75 degree weather, full of sunshine, and relaxing with my family on vacation somewhere.

MY FAVORITE LOCAL NONPROFIT IS… Boys Team Charity. This is a volunteer program that my sons participate in where they volunteer their time to Feed My Starving Children, The Miracle League, and pack lunches and clothes for the homeless, etc.

MY LIFE IS… better than I could have imagined. I have a beautiful family; we are all healthy. We are so blessed!

THE BEST GIFT I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS… my children, hands down. I know that being a father is a privilege and I never take that for granted.

MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE… Switzerland. My wife and I are planning a getaway in a few years and because I know it is in the works, it’s definitely my dream vacation.

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED IS… “Don’t dwell on the past. Dream big about the future and be present in the moment.”
