Located at 830 E. Greenway Pkwy, #100. in Phoenix, Lookout Tavern is a must stop when you are in north central Phoenix, located just south of Bell Road and just east of 7th Street.

What do you see when you first enter Lookout? Televisions. On every wall, over the bar, outside; no matter where your eyes fall, you will find a TV. Enjoy any number of events, ESPN, or even ChiveTV (one of my personal favorites). Lookout offers both spacious indoor and outdoor seating. Their patio is a favorite this time of year with misters, shades and fun games (think Giant Jenga) available to play while you wait for your meal.

When I first walked in, I was immediately greeted with a friendly “hello” and offered to sit wherever I like. Everyone looked cheerful and I can honestly say I felt welcomed.

The menu was as well stocked as the bar, with tasty menu items like their Loaded Nachos and Bacon Wrapped Jalapenos, to Guac n’ Pepper burgers and Crispy Buffalo Chicken salads. Their prices are all reasonable and I don’t recall seeing a menu item over $14. On this stop, I was all in on the Cubano sandwich and some Tavern Berto’s fries. Within a relatively short period of time my order arrived and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. The Cubano with pulled pork, ham, swiss (no pickles for me) and mustard piled on a hoagie was perfect. The pulled pork was juicy but not to the point of soaking the bread. The flavors were well blended to create this sandwich. Now the Tavern Berto’s. This menu item is not to be taken lightly (pun intended). When I placed my order, I assumed I would be able to eat this myself along with my sandwich… NO CHANCE. This is a pile of fries topped with carne asada, cheddar, guacamole, sour cream and pico. The steak was tender, the quac was flavorful and the pico added that little bit of healthy food that my doctor says I should eat. The only problem was that there was no way for me to finish it on my own. A “to-go” box was in my future and a midnight snack was a sure thing tonight.
Is this going to be a regular stop? For sure. Besides the many items left to try on the menu, Lookout keeps the entertainment alive throughout the week with Trivia Night on Wednesday and themed nights all through the month. If you are a Steelers fan (you know who you are), this is a Steeler Nation bar so don’t pass it by. They also have regular UFC and Boxing events.
